Elizabeth Taylor morreu aos 79 anos em Los Angeles, enfrentava desde 2004 um quadro de insuficiência cardíaca congestiva, doença que impede o coração de bombear sangue o suficiente para suprir as necessidades dos demais órgãos do corpo.

Filha dos estadunidenses, Francis Leen Taylor (1897–1968) e Sara Viola Warmbrodt (1895–1994), mudaram-se para os Estados Unidos em 1939. Começou a carreira cinematográfica ainda criança, quando foi descoberta aos dez anos. Contratada pela Universal Pictures, filmou There's One Born Every Minute, mas não teve o contrato renovado. Assim como o amigo pessoal Mickey Rooney, revelou talento participando de filmes infanto-juvenis, como na estréia em 1943 num pequeno papel da série Lassie. A partir de então, apaixonou-se pela profissão e permanecer no estúdio tornou-se o maior sonho.
